Well, for a bit anyway. We have officially left the UK.
Packing the van yesterday seemed never ending, and there were a few last minute dashes to the shops for various items, but we at least managed to get 4 hours sleep before the alarm went off at 5am this morning.
After a quick coffee and one last walk around the house, we all clambered into “Discorama” (that’s what we decided to name the Motorhome, after a horse that ran the Grand National this year!), met up with our travelling companions for the first week and bid farewell to our home for the next 4 months.
Our first 8 nights are going to be a bit of a family holiday with Kates sister, her husband Harry and their two kids Indi and Heath.
A quick drive to Poole and a smooth boarding was followed by a slap up English breakfast on the ferry and the obligatory duty free toblerone purchase, and now a nap before finding our Airbnb in Normandy on the other side. I highly recommend booking a cabin if you’re travelling with small children so everyone can have a lie down. Our two wouldn’t be too bad, but with Indi and Heath being only 2 and nearly 1, the ability to contain them in your own space is invaluable!
Stop one for us is a Normandy farmhouse big enough for two families of four, at the southern end of the Cotentin Peninsula in a small village called Yquelon, not far from Granville. I shall probably do a few posts from this area, as we’ll be visiting a few places of interest that might be interesting for anyone planning family trips in the area. But for now I’m gonna sign off and enjoy a beer or two with my brother in law. A bientot
