Zoo de Champrepus

I find that zoos tend to divide opinions. Personally, I enjoy a day at a well cared for zoo, and I love getting up close and personal with animals that I don’t come across in my normal life. Obviously there are some caveats to that. The animals must be well cared for and kept in environments sympathetic to their needs. The zoo also needs to be actively raising awareness of the plight of the endangered animal species in their care, as this is one of the main purposes of a good zoo. And if they also actively participate in breeding programmes to support the longevity of these animal species in the wild, then that’s a bonus.

If a zoo can tick all these boxes, then I can wholeheartedly enjoy a day getting up close and personal with lemurs and ogling at the big cats, and that is exactly what we did at Champrepus!

There is ample parking here for cars and motorhomes alike. The zoo is situated on either side of the main road, with its own footbridge connecting the two sides. There are 7 different areas comprising around 60 different species of animals. There is also a petting zoo which the kids loved. They especially loved feeding popcorn to the Pygmy goats, so much so that we may even have to find one to keep our dog Ziggy company when we get home!

There is also a pretty decent restaurant right next to a kids play area complete with bouncy castle, which allowed for a welcome distraction for the kids while the adults can have a quick sit down and an ice cream after a few hours of animal fun!

All in all, as a family day out this zoo was pretty good value, and well worth a look if you’re in the area.
